eBay Find: Cheap Stadium Club box

Over the last few days I have been CRAVING bustin’ a full box of cards.. I would settle for almost anything! I haven’t busted a full box since I was a kid with 1993 Topps!! So I searched for what looked like an entertaining set that might have some nice inserts that wasn’t too old and came up with this. About $18 including shipping, should be here in about a week. I’ll post the highlights of course.

Card of the Day: 2003 Donruss Champions Jeremy Guthrie Auto 385/400

I was browsing on eBay for bargains and ended up with this one for 25 cents plus shipping. He seems to be doing well for himself lately and has made a name for himself over at Baltimore. Seemed like a real steal.

Origins of Baseball – eBay Purchase

Lately I’ve been craving reading up on the history of baseball and seeing those old baseball photos from the 19th century. So I found myself on eBay picking up this set of 100 cards illustrating just that. This set is chock full of funny named teams, big mustaches and Hall of Famers I’ve never heard of!
Can anyone name this park? I don’t know either. This card is the last of the set and it doesn’t really talk about the picture. It looks like some building named “Washington Heights is perched on top of that cliff back there if that helps.
The Boston Beaneaters (what does that even mean??) was the most successful team of the 1890’s taking 5 National League pennants during that decade.
Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1949. He had a record of 239 – 130 and had 6 20 win seasons in a row. His Chicago Cubs won 4 pennants and 2 World Series with Brown leading the team. It says on the back that at age 7 Mordecai accidentally stuck his hand under a corn chopper, slicing his index finger off and badly breaking his thumb and middle finger. His hand was placed in a splint, but he fell on it while chasing a hog around the yard, badly contorting the broken fingers.

eBay Fun

So after a long absence from eBay, I discovered I had 7 or 8 bucks still sitting in my paypal account. So I had to spend it! It’s like free money not tied to the family budget! I searched for cheap singles which fell into my price range.. anything that caught my eye. I ended up with this nice Freddy Garcia auto from Topps’ trading places set, which I always liked. One player on two different teams on one card! And the autograph.. well since I’ve only opened cheap packs all year and haven’t bought any singles til now.. I have nearly zero autos in my collection. Hopefully Freddy can pull himself together and continue his great career and get signed after screwing the Phillies. This one cost me about $5.

After that I had a couple bucks left and I found this beauty. The Red Sox have possibly become my favorite team right now.. so Clemens and Dice-K on one card is cool. Flags on cards always get me too. But to top it off, anything having to do with the World Baseball Classic is fine with me! (I’m really excited about the 2009 tournement, even though I probably wont get a chance to see any of it.) (Go Puerto Rico!)

Hoping for Monday

I was hoping this would come in the mail today. I bought one of these on eBay last week and I’m just waiting for it to show up. I like odd and unusual packs that aren’t your run of the mill cards. This is a 2006 Japanese BBM Seibu Lions foil pack which contains cards from that team only. There are 6 cards in the pack and 7 of the 100 cards in this set are of Dice’K! So.. hopefully Monday I’ll get this sucker.
