First of all, if you traded with me recently, and I didn’t share it on here, I’m sorry. Just as of last month, I didn’t have internet or a scanner that worked more than 10% of the time, so cards were not posted and cards were assimilated into my collection and they were all very much appreciated. Now that I have these luxuries, posting a trade post doesn’t take me 3 1/2 hours to put together.
This latest one is from
Night Owl. He contacted me about some Dodgers he spotted from my ’93 Action Packed box break, and he had several great Darryl Strawberry cards that I didn’t own yet. He also took a stab at my needs list and knocked a few off of there!
Some examples of my base card needs he sent:
2009 Allen & Ginter #213 Stephanie Brown Trafton. She brought home US gold from Beijing for discus.

2009 Topps #259 National League Strikeout Leaders Tim Lincecum (265k), Johan Santana (206k) and Dan Haren (206k). Edinson Volquez also had 206k but I guess he lost the popularity contest.

2008 Stadium Club #98 Roberto Clemente. These Stadium Club cards #91-100 are among my all time favorite cards. Incredibly high quality vintage images with a glossy finish. Nothing better.

Here are all the Darryl Strawberrys I traded for. 1993 Upper Deck #477 Team Stars w/ Eric Davis.

1994 Pinnacle #309 Hometown Heroes.

1992 Studio #50.

1992 Leaf #29.

1991 Fleer Update #U-96.

1991 Donruss #696. This might have been my most heavily collected set as a kid so eventually I’ll have to put this one together.

1991 Classic Blue #T68.
Once again, thanks for the great trade Night Owl!

Here’s a few quick pickups that came in the mail today from eBay. I’ve become addicted to serial numbered cards and I’m not sure why.
Sergio was really exciting to watch for the Trail Blazers, and just as I started focusing on sports again and was becoming more familiar with the team members, he was dealt to Sacramento.

This red parallel is numbered to 150 and I have the base card on its way from Sportlots.com.

I think I might start a collection of cards featuring flags. I’ve always been fascinated with them since I was a kid. This one is tied with a Darryl Strawberry card for the smallest serial numbered card that I own. The smallest I’ve actually pulled from a pack is an Andy Pettitte numbered to 65.
Also, one last reminder to enter my
contest! Entries must be recieved by 12:01 AM PST tonight!

It’s time to take this list off of my want list and give it its own home. This is a list of all the Darryl Strawberry cards in my collection. If you have anything not on this list, I’d be willing to trade for it! Also, a good number of cards on this list have a link to a scan if you’re curious what they look like.
As of 2/26/10, my collection is 9.1147197485594552121529596647459% complete according to Beckett.com.
Blue means pending.

It had been awhile since I had added any cards to my Darryl Strawberry collection, so while browsing on eBay I decided on this oddball. I was the only bidder and won it for only 1¢ + 99¢ shipping. 4 days later, it arrived from the seller in a Christmas card! Merry Christmas to me! I’ve seen a Strawberry card from a 1983 set but didn’t know there were others. Turns out they released sets annually from 1980 to 1988, plus one in the 50’s, I think. The back of this one is the same as the Topps base set from the same year, except for the Drake’s logo.

This is my first try at making my own custom card and I’m pretty happy with it. It took me 2 long nights with my limited knowledge of the GIMP application, but I’m getting faster with it. Any suggestions on the next player and also suggestions on the best way to print these out? I don’t have a working printer right now so either a 1 hour photo place or a web lab would be best I think.
What do you think?

I dug this out of one of my 5,000 count boxes the other day while I was scanning a few more Strawberry cards from my collection. I think I got this from the
freebies Stats on the Back was giving away.
I’d never heard of this little 18 card set until I looked it up today. Beckett.com says the cards were “randomly inserted in 26-card magazine distributor packs”. I don’t even know what that means, really.
The back shows us a nice aerial shot of Dodger Stadium, which oddly is not the park where he hit the 460 ft. home run on which this card is based. Yeah, it would look funny to have Candlestick park on the back of a Dodger’s Darryl Strawberry card, but the Dodger Stadium shot doesn’t really make sense to me on this one. Hmm.. and why does it show him singling to right instead of long-balling?

Having been out of touch with this hobby for something like 14 years, I guess I’m lucky to be able to go and pick up a box of 1997 Stadium Club for $11 and be thrilled as if it was a brand new set because it’s new to ME! Only 1 disappointment I came across.. I was hoping to pull a wooden Firebrand insert and when I did, it was an expired redemption for a Mark McGwire which was NOT wooden.. sure I could go on eBay and pick one up for a buck but.. bleh.
I’ll show my top 10 personal favorites:
#10

Did you know Doc ended his career with a 194-112 record?! I’m not a Yankees fan but I do remember loving it when he and Strawberry were reunited as teammates once again.
#9

Here’s Smoltzie the year after he easily won the Cy Young for having a 24-8 season with 294 K’s!
#8

Paul Molitor nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career.
#7

This card looks horrible in this scan, and really, it doesn’t look much better in person. Why would they make a card commemorating someone hitting their 50th career home run after they’ve been playing for 9 years? Why is this card my #7? Because I like Mr. Anderson and there aren’t too many inserts in this box. The Instavisions were listed at 1:36 packs! Did you know he played most of the ’97 season with a broken rib and led his pennant winning Orioles in 13 offensive categories? He led the league in hit-by-pitches too.. with a broken rib I bet that freaked him out every time.
#6

This subset had some great stars in their rookie years. They were put in 1:3 packs.
#5

Eddie is always cool with me.
#4

Jr’s ’97 season was one of his best, if not THE best. He earned an AL MVP and hit 56 HRs that year. Was he juiced? I don’t think so. I really hope and beleive Griffey’s talent was genuine. He’s always come across as real to me.
#2

These Matrix parallels look awesome and I’m glad I pulled one of a player I know and like! Odds were 1:18 packs.

I have to post just one pack before I go to bed because I’m really happy about this one. Darryl Strawberry’s rookie cards were always on the top of my most wanted list when I was at the peak of my childhood collecting.. but I think they used to cost like $60 back in the early 90’s.. so I never saw one. Today, I buy 2 1984 Fleer packs and I pulled one! Awesome! Made my day.

Here’s what I got:
#89 Dan Petry
#141 Bob Shirley
#216 Bob Tellmann
#229 Ray Knight
#247 John Candelaria
#255 Lee Mazzilli
#262 Don Robinson
#428 Mike Smithson [rookie]
#447 Rickey Henderson
#450 Bill Kreuger [rookie]
#534 Chris Bando
#590 Dave Kingman
#599 Darryl Strawberry [rookie]
#612 Steve Henderson
#620 Bob Stoddard
#657 Pirates & Mets Checklist / Chuck Tanner Mgr.
Atlanta Braves Stickers & Stats
What it cost me: $ 3.00
Beckett max worth: $10.70
Insert odds I beat: N/A
Most valuable card: #599 Darryl Strawberry [rookie] @ $5.00
This Rickey Henderson is pretty sweet too.. considering he will be the next inductee into Cooperstown.
