Virgil "Fire" Trucks Contest Win from Carl Crawford Cards
September 26, 2009
A little while ago, the Carl Crawford Cards blog was holding an impressive giveaway of 9 different Virgil Trucks autographed cards ranging from a 1950 Bowman (!) to a business card, all to 9 different winners. They were all recently received TTM specifically meant for a giveaway. I entered along with 24 other people and I came away with the #4 spot, a 1959 Topps!
What an awesome prize! I was thrilled when this arrived in the mail. For those of you who are asking themselves “Who is Virgil Trucks”?, don’t fret, I asked myself the same thing before I saw the contest. This guy pitched in the majors from 1941 to 1958, mostly for the Tigers, but also for the Browns, White Sox, Athletics and Yankees. He won a World Series in ’45 while with the Tigers, and in ’52 he pitched 2 no hitters in the same season, also with the Tigers. Yes, this was his final base card with Topps. He had quite the career and I’m sure his new book is a good read.
Bounty: Care of Sports Locker and Trader Crack’s Card Blog
August 22, 2009
JRJ over at the Sports Locker blog help a little contest a few weeks ago giving away some things he picked up while at The National. I happened to win the nice promo card featuring an all new vintage themed minor league set from TriStar!
He also sent this Score football card which he also got at The National. This is sweet because I’m actually putting together this set. This one surprised me though because I can’t find anything anywhere about an “Atomic” parallel. I’m guessing Atomic = Promo?
This one I won from a contest at Trader Crack’s Card Blog. This card brings many firsts to my collection. My first cut sig. My first Razor card. This card came from a pack that probably costs more than I make in a day, which will probably be a first and last! Who knew that cards can come out of a pack already slabbed!

Contest for my 100th Post!
July 27, 2009I know I probably don’t get more readers in a given day than I can count on one hand, but what the hey! Hopefully I get more than 1 contestant. I went through my toploaders and came up with a couple of doubles that I could give away. Came up with a Reggie Jackson and a Mike Piazza. The cards aren’t much but hopefully this can be fun and hopefully the cards are nice enough. Then I tried to come up with a link between the two players to make up a trivia question or 2!
Here’s the questions:
- What feat did Reggie Jackson, Mike Piazza and 342 other major leaguers accomplish three times in one game? (as of 7/8/09)
- What 1 state is home to the team or teams both Mike Piazza and Reggie Jackson played for when they accomplished this feat.
Here’s the Rules:
- Enter both your answers in a response to this post.
- Only entries posted before 11:59 PM PST Wednesday 7/29/09 will be counted.
- 1 entry per person. Any additional entries per person will not be counted and only the first answer will be counted.
- Each correct entry will be given a number in order of entry time and the numbers will be put in to random.org for the winner.
Here’s the Prize:
