2007 Upper Deck Baseball Series 1 & 2 Combo Pack

January 16, 2008

For a base set with over 1,000 cards to it, you would hope to find a little more to the mix than just player cards and checklists.. and the meaningless Triple Play inserts turned out to be just scratchits for UpperDeckKids.com points which I can’t even use. Funny thing, nowhere on these inserts does it say where you can type in the codes that were scratched off.. only after googling message boards did I come to find out they were for UpperDeckKids.com.

Not a big deal though.. otherwise, it’s a great set with brilliant photos and solid card design.

2007 Upper Deck Masterpieces

January 12, 2008

This set has quickly become my favorite set of last year. It’s just so beautiful with the canvas style surfaces and gold foil, lots of different parallels, a few great insert sets, and it’s chock full of historical cards like Ruth and Cobb.. even Presidents Nixon and Clinton wearing their gloves at a game.. and Michael Jordan in his Sox uniform! What a mix! The only downside to this set is it’s so damn small.. only a 90 card base. I’ll be opening more of these for sure so watch for them.
Here’s what I got:

#20 Ty Cobb
#31 David Ortiz
#64 Jered Weaver
#77 Phil Hughes [rookie]

Pack Stats:

What it cost me: $ 2.99
Beckett NM/MT worth: $8.00
Insert odds I beat: none
Most valuable card: Phil Hughes [rookie] @ $3.00

Favorite Card of the Week [1.4.08-1.10.08]

January 11, 2008

This first round draft pick got off to a great start last season in Buffalo passing the 1,000 yard mark in his rookie season, making him the fourth Bills rookie to pass that mark, the first since Greg Bell in 1984. In addition, he did this while missing 3 games during the season for an ankle injury. If Marshawn continues down this path and maybe if the Bills pick up some playoff wins with him in the next few years, his rookie cards’ worth have the potential to pick up a lot of momentum.
